What Is National Black Business Month?

Established in 2004 by historian John William Templeton and engineer Frederick E. Jordan, Sr., National Black Business Month to ‚Äúdrive the policy agenda affecting the 2.6 million African-American businesses” according to the website. In a recent report from the U.S. Black Chambers of Commerce, The 2021 BLACKprint, prior to the pandemic those black businesses generated more than $150 billion in revenue and employed 1 million plus workers. However, many black-owned businesses suffered significant loss as result of the pandemic. In the BLACKprint, the Chamber outlines three priorities to increase black wealth:

Increase deposits and loans with Black-owned banks.

Increase Black home ownership to over 50% nationwide.

Grow the number of Black-owned businesses from 2.6 million to 4 million and total gross receipts from an average of $72,500.00 to $150,000.00.

It is the expectation that the policy and decision makers these prioities their priorities as an opportunity to assist black businesses during this economic recovery. The overarching goal of the Chamber is to restore existing and launch more black owned businesses, to increase the economic viability of those entities; thus, increasing wealth among African Americans and directly narrowing the income inequality gap.

The goal of National Black Business Month Dayton is to help move the needle on the wealth gap is by focusing on priority #3 (b) – “grow…gross receipts” of black owned businesses. This is exactly what National Black Business Month Bingo is decided to do. Grow the financial wealth of black people.
